Concept Illustrations

Fantasy Detectives - A team of fantasy detectives. From left to right we have the assassin, the backroom boy and then the detective master mind. He’s got Faery blood you know…
info icon
Charity City - The upper part of Charity where the rich and successful live and Jak and Peet can only visit. The higher the tower, the higher the status of its occupants.
info icon
Charity Rat - A clockwork rat. Not that they don’t have plenty of ordinary rats in Charity, but these can be given orders and programmed to wind each other up when the clockwork runs down. You wouldn’t want one of these up your drainpipe…

Comic book Sample - A sample for the first page of a comic book about Don Quixote. The story starts when a man comes into an inn, looking for Sancho Panz who is drinking at the bar.

Fox Characters - Cor blimey guvnor! More detectives, but this time they’re animals. They fight crime in a huge, foggy city with cobbled streets and flickering gaslights, rather like Victorian London.
info icon
Long John Silver - If all the pirates in Treasure Island were fierce jungle beasts and all the good guys were quiet domestic animals…

Steampunk Sample - I worked this idea up into a line and wash illustration on a grey ground heightened with white gouache. The countess is being given a guided tour of the weapons hangar by an inventor’s teenage son.
info icon
Steampunk Vampire - A Russian officer who also happens to be a vampire, his mesmeric gaze can stop a victim in their tracks. Another line and wash drawing heightened with white.
info icon
Steampunk Countess - This steampunk countess is rich, pampered and dressed in height of alternative fashion. The bolero jacket is based on the tunic of a British grenadier at the time of the Crimean War.
info icon
Steampunk Mutants - Russian mutant soldiers spill out of a steampunk tunneling device. Genetically mutated they have mechanical implants for extra fun and mayhem.
info icon
Steampunk Heroes - A group of steampunk heroes make their way through the ruins of Paris. A curiously altered Notre Dame stands in the background. This is the standard of finish for all roughs I present to my clients.
info icon
Charity Characters - Jak Stretch runs a bar in Charity and Peet is his ward. A colourful past has left Jak with a bionic eye and a tendency to reach for his coil gun at the drop of a hat.
